New UK Law Criminalizes Stealth Marketing Techniques (SEOMoz)

Interesting one if you’re in Europe / UK.  In essence its a loosely worded (as applied to online marketing) piece of European legislation that prohibits misrepresentation by law

Misrepresentation for us online marketing types is for instance where we say something good about a company, whilst in their pay, pretending to be a random person off the street.

The only unsettling part of this, is the remote possibility of prosecution or if there were an overzealous party intent on causing a PR nightmare for a big brand (motor insurance companies come to mind).

In reality of course there is far more serious mis-representaiton cases, but you never know…
